Summer, Saratoga, Shakespeare – It just doesn’t get any better than that. |
|
|
Saratoga Shakespeare Company is known today as one of the
major cultural highlights of the Saratoga summer season.
From its proud debut in 2000 with Twelfth Night to its
acclaimed interpretation of As Y'All Like It in 2008, the Company
lives up
to its mission to bring the works of William Shakespeare to
life.
Theater professionals in the community created this company
to serve the need for free, professional outdoor
Shakespeare.
We had a vision of an accessible event that would bring
together people of all ages and levels of exposure to
theater, with no limitations to the economically
disadvantaged or physically challenged.
|
|
No other free, professional venue for live productions of
Shakespeare exists in the Capital Region, and Historic
Congress Park is the ideal venue. It is accessible, centrally located
in the heart of Saratoga Springs, and it contains a site
ideal for outdoor theater.
Thanks to superior sound, we can accommodate over 1,000
guests per show. Our productions employ professional
directors, designers, and actors, with the cooperation of community
volunteers in all areas.
An apprentice program helps
aspiring theater professionals bridge the gap between training and
the world of work.
This is a family-friendly event.

“Excellent company. Shows get better every year! My children now love Shakespeare!”
“I enjoyed your work tremendously! I’ve been able to attend four performances.
It never became stale,
and I want to thank you all!”
“We loved it! Excellent work. See you next year.”
“Keep them coming. It’s just great!”

Arts Day 2008
On February 26, artists from around the state gathered at the
Legislative Office Building in Albany. NYCSA and the Alliance of Arts Organizations of New York led the campaign to increase state funding for the Arts. Saratoga Shakespeare featured prominently in the showcase and were part of the Rally. Below are photos of our "street" performance as well as snapshots of visits with some of our local Legislators, Assemblemen Tedisco and McEneny. Patsy Culbert, Tim Dugan, Alan Edstrom, Lisa Tosti, Ian Sullivan, Taylor Finlay and Zach Schwartz provided the entertainment.
